All About Catalina Island
Catalina Island is a failry large island (13 by 22 km) with combined desert and rocky terrain. It is the only of the Channel Islands that sustains public, tourist, and residential life. There are many ways to get to Catalina, including catamarans, ferries and helicopters.
It's largest city Avalon hasa population of near 4,000. It is a beautiful harbour with houses all through a valley with a beautiful view of the sea.
The island was first develop by the Wrigles, of the chewing gum fortune. They developed the land and created a casino. Which at the time was before the word was used commonly with gambling, and simply meant a place of gathering.
The wriggle estate still exists today as the Inn on Mt. Adda. It contains 5 rooms, and can be rented out for your stay at the island.
There are cars on the island but many just use smaller vehicles or golf carts to get around. It is an exciting and fun place, with many attractions on the water, and in the town, and gardens.
